A solar energy system is an electrical system that enables you to generate your own clean green electricity directly from the sun.

PV systems are generally divided into two major groups: the solar “stand alone” system and the ones related to the existing distribution network managed by third parties, in this case we talk about “grid connected” systems.

The power output of a solar energy system is measured by the sum of the power of each panels and the unit of measurement used is the peak kilowatt (symbol: kWp).

The area occupied by a photovoltaic system is a little bit bigger than that one occupied by the photovoltaic modules only, which is about 8 m²/kwp with today’s technology.

Note that each type of cell covers a different area in terms of surface, the amorphous silicon cells occupy approximately 20  m²/kwp.

Concerning the grounding PV systems or the ones installed on flatted roof, the modules panels are disposed on multiple lines, individually raised towards the sun, in order to maximize the  captured irradiation. These lines are defined according to the geometric requirements of the installation place and they don’t correspond always to the lines of the power strings. PV systems are usually divided into three big families with a special attention to those connected to the network:

  • Small PV systems: with a nominal power up to 20 kwp.;
  •  Medium PV system: with a nominal power between 20kwp. And 50kwp.;
  •  Big PV systems: with a nominal power bigger than 50 kwp.
